SRK shoots for Fan outside his home Mannat
"The other holidays or festival release dates are already booked by other stars. It was only Bakri Eid which gave Fan a window for a proper holiday release. Else, the team would have had to shift the film to 2016 - something SRK himself did not want," a source revealed
Bollywood Badshah Shah Rukh Khan's upcoming film Fan, which was earlier scheduled to release on August 14, will now reportedly hit the screens on Bakri Eid (September 23). (Also Read: Shah Rukh Khan's Fan Release Date Postponed)
A report in DNA states that the film has been postponed because of the heavy post-production involved. It quotes an insider as saying, "The film has still around 10 days shooting left to be completed before Shah Rukh moves on to his other projects. The post-production work will take some time longer, hence the decision".
Red Chillies VFX COO Keitan Yadav adds, "We're trying to attempt something really different and new with Fan".
Directed by Band Baaja Baaraat director Maneesh Sharma, Fan is being produced by Aditya Chopra's Yash Raj Films. Aditya offered the slot of August 14 to good friend Karan Johar for his film Brothers starring Akshay Kumar, Sidharth Malhotra and Jacqueline Fernandez. KJo confirmed the news on Twitter:
Meanwhile, SRK, Aditya Chopra and director Maneesh Sharma have almost locked in on Bakri Eid for releasing Fan. The DNA report quotes a source, "The other holidays or festival release dates are already booked by other stars. None of the other holiday dates were free - be it Eid, Diwali, Gandhi Jayanti or Christmas. It was only Bakri Eid which gave Fan a window for a proper holiday release. Else, the team would have had to shift the film to 2016 - something SRK himself did not want."
Bakri Eid falls on a Wednesday which implies that Fan is likely to gain from the long five-day opening weekend. If the film is not able to release that day, it might not release this year at all, adds the source.
Holidays have long been synonymous with big banner Bollywood releases. 2015 will be no different. Among the big budget films set for release on festivals are Bajrangi Bhaijaan on Eid-ul-Fitr, Brothers on Independence Day, Singh is Bling and Rocky Handsome on Gandhi Jayanti, Prem Ratan Dhan Payo on Diwali and Bajirao Mastani on Christmas.
