Happy Birthday Anushka Sharma: The year of Virat Kohli...

Anushka Sharma: came from nowhere to achieve instant Bollywood Super-stardom. When she was signed on as the lead of Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi opposite Shah Rukh Khan, the question in everyone's mind was: who is this Bangalore model?

It was answered soon enough when birthday girl Anushka made a successful debut and then went on to deliver one hit after another. However, it was her real-life jodi with Indian cricket team's vice-captain Virat Kohli which was on people's minds this past year even as she delivered superb performances in hits like PK and NH 10.

Theirs has been a love story which has been feted and reviled in equal parts. Every time Virat's performance tanks, it is blamed on Anushka. No, don't go looking for logic here for that's not how fans of Indian cricket work.

Only, Anushka has handled this love-hate relationship with maturity and an innate poise, and, if anything, has emerged stronger from it. Like it or hate it, Anushka and Virat's was the love story which was on our mind last year. And isn't it a match made in heaven: cricket royalty meets Bollywood queen in-waiting?

Once she confirmed the relationship in an interview, she has said little about it in any public fora. Virat, on the other hand, has been quick to take umbrage when someone belittles his ladylove.

In November last year, after he and Anushka took a lot of heat over his bad form, Virat celebrated his 32nd half century by blowing a kiss to Anushka who was watching from the stands.

After months of a diplomatic silence on her relationship status, interspersed by some stout denials to Karan Johar on Koffee with Karan, Anushka finally capitulated. In an interview, she said, "I am in a relationship with him (Virat) and I have respect for my relationship. The only reason I don't talk about it is because we don't know where to draw the boundary. If someone comes out in the open and tells you that yes I am in a relationship and if you are going to constantly just keep asking questions, it's like my personal space isn't being respected."

That did not stop the duo from being seen out in public, or media from clicking them. Living under the spotlight all the time must have affected the couple because Virat launched an expletive-leaden attack on an HT journalist while the World Cup was going on, mistaking him for a mediaperson who had written an article about him and Anushka.

The real test of their relationship was yet to come: India's 95-run defeat during the World Cup semi-final was pinned on an unlikely target - Anushka. She was trolled and called derogatory names.

But if internet bullies thought that it will bog the star couple down, they were mistaken. The two returned to India, hand-in-hand and made their stance very clear. As Bollywood came out in Anushka's support, Virat told his fans and detractors to take it down a notch.

"My relationship with Anushka has only become stronger because of that incident. We have gone through this together. If someone is saying bad things about my partner, obviously I will get angry because that's a very personal thing to me," said the cricketer in an interview.

Proving once again how strong their bond is, he added, "When she was there clapping for me when I got a 100, I felt very happy and relieved. It was there for people to see what Anushka's presence can do to me… I thought with me performing and she clapping in Australia, we had made a joint statement."

And that you did. Take that, bullies for this past year belonged to them. And on Anushka's birthday today, we hope that we see more of this couple in the years to come.

Volkswagen Flying Car! Could This Be The Future?

We have heard lot about the flying and automatic cars, Google, Microsoft, Volkswagen and other have being working since years.

When Volkswagen invited its customers to think up for some ideas, it was perhaps inevitable that there would be at least one flying car design put forward, and get into the work.

But one concept – the ‘Hover Car’ – impressed the firm so much a short CGI YouTube video was made to showcase it, and let the idea of the flying car into real life.

The video below shows a VW flying two-seater zipping through Beijing. The car, powered by minerals underground, was the brainchild of a girl in China who responded to the car maker’s call for car innovation concepts, and gave the idea of 'Hover Car'.

The idea is that thrusters on the back of the car would propel it forward, and the underground minerals will help to keep distance from the ground, just like the bullet train.

Getting the 'Car' to work for real would require, electromagnetic strips embedded into the roads below it, creating the hovering effect via electromagnetic suspension.

As a prize, the girl’s parents got to “Test Drive” the car in a simulated video, According to Creativity Online, VW received 119,000 ideas and got 33 million hits on its website.
They are also working for the part 2 video for same model and soon will be out.

WhatsApp voice calling is officially out, here's how to get it on Android device!

After multiple flip-flops, WhatsApp has finally, released the voice-calling feature for all Android users. All You will need to download version 2.11.528 from the Play Store or version 2.11.531 from the WhatsApp website.

While several online reports have claimed, that the voice calling feature on WhatsApp has arrived. Though there is no official announcement or confirmation from the company. Several blogs suggested that users need to download the latest version of Whatsapp or get version 2.11.528/531 to activate the feature. However, this may not work. Even newer versions like 2.11.561 is yet to get the feature. So, upgrading to the latest version will clearly not work.

Another round of online reports informed that users will only get the calling feature activated on their accounts if someone makes a WhatsApp call to them. Suggesting that an invitation is required.

For the record the latest version of WhatsApp (as of March 14) is 2.12.7. You can download it from the website and install the .apk file. However, you will need someone (who already has the feature) to call you to activate it on your device.

So, if you haven’t received the calling feature even after updating to the latest version, it’s better to forget about it for the moment and wait for the official announcement. When WhatsApp announced its WhatsWeb, the feature was available across all versions. So, we can expect the same this time for voice calling.

Meanwhile, several malwares and fake WhatsApp calling apps have appeared to take advantage of curious users. Last week we read about a malware which was promising access to the WhatsApp voice-calling feature. According to the Daily Star, if users clicked on a link, they were taken to another website where they were asked to take a survey on behalf of the popular messaging service. However, the survey forces people to download applications and software that might contain dangerous malware.

Celebrate V-Day with 'Gunday'

New Delhi: Different from the usual mush and romantic comedies, this Valentine's Day enjoy director Ali Abbas Zafar's atypical action thriller ‘Gunday’.

Valentine's Day is celebrated every year on Feb 14 and the film is also coming out on the same day.

Featuring Priyanka Chopra, Ranveer Singh, Arjun Kapoor and Irrfan, ‘Gunday’ made on an approximate budget of Rs.50 crore which includes promotions, will reportedly hit more than 2,000 screens across the country.

Trade analyst Rajesh Thadani is hopeful about the action thriller's box office prospects.

"The film will have a bumper opening. It might even cross Rs.100 crore," Thadani of Multimedia Combines said.

Produced under the prestigious banner of Yash Raj Films (YRF), ‘Gunday’ holds a lot of significance for it’s makers as it was the last narration that the late Yash Chopra, who started YRF, heard.

"It's a very special film for us because this was the last script that Yash Chopra heard. It's special for us to do the film because he really loved the script and he believed in it," Zafar had said earlier.

Set in the 1970s West Bengal, the film tells the story of two friends - Bala and Bikram - played by Arjun and Ranveer respectively.

The two grow from being small time inconsequential coal thieves to the most powerful black marketing mafia men.

If the story is atypical, the actors also sport different avatars in the film. In fact, Ranveer and Arjun went many shades darker for the movie.

The plot fits well with the time it portrays and also includes the world of cabaret dancers with Priyanka playing cabaret dancer Nandita.

To look convincing on screen, the actress trained with French cabaret dancers for the song 'Asalaam e ishqum'.

Parts of the film have been shot in Kolkata and Durgapur in West Bengal. The makers also canned a song in Oman.

Arjun and Ranveer will be seen together for the first in ‘Gunday’ and viewers would like to see their on screen chemistry after their crackling off screen bonding.

Happy Birthday, Garfield!!

Today is the birthday of the most incorrigible cat on the planet – Garfield!!!

To say I love Garfield (the comic and the character) would be an understatement. If you’ve been a regular visitor here, this fact mustn’t surprise you :-). He’s obnoxious, narcissistic, inconsiderate, gluttonous, arrogant… this could go on for a while :-). But, he’s still my favorite fictional cat!!!

Speaking of fictional cats, some of the other cats that I really like are Snowbell from Stuart Little, Puss in Boots and all those fun loving cats in ‘The Aristocats’.

I know, I’ve got a weakness for cats. But there’s no doubt about who’s in the top spot – Garfield rules!! Happy Birthday, Garfield!!!

Fitness - Bollywood Style!

Ok, if you think this is another long winded article about the various, ever changing (and questionable) fitness routines of bollywood stars, you couldn’t be more wrong. I, for one, don’t believe all the stuff they say in their interviews. Ok, parts of it may be true, but I can’t help feeling that they are leaving out all the gory details and making it appear that effortless is really just a façade. Anyway, leave that, I’m just talking about how they can help us attain fitter bodies – through their songs!!

I mean, aren’t there some songs that just make you feel like jumping up and dancing away to glory!! And isn’t dance one of the best cardio workouts around? Well, there you are!! A perfect, enjoyable workout to do at home; completely equipment free, trainer free, everything free!! So, to make things a wee bit easier for you guys, I compiled a list of some of the ‘dhamakedaar’ songs I think would be perfect to work up a sweat :-). Here they are:

1. Sadi Gali from Tanu Weds Manu

2. Rang De Basanti from Rang De Basanti

3. Ainvayi Ainvayi from Band Baaja Baaraat

4. Dhan Te Nan from Kaminey

5. Sheila Ki Jawani from Tees Maar Khan

6. Pappu Can’t Dance Saala from Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na

7. It’s the Time to Disco from Kal Ho Na Ho

8. Koi Kahe from Dil Chahta Hai

9. Desi Girl from Dostana

There you go! More than 40 minutes of energy boosting, mood boosting cardio!! Do it alone, or have your buddies over.

What do you think of my list? Tell me about your fav cardio workout too :-).

Bones

I know the title probably sounds bizarre, but I’m talking about the TV show here. You do know what I’m talking about, don’t you? Please say you do. There are so many people out there who’re fans of Dexter, but not that many of Bones. Don’t get me wrong, Dexter is my fav TV show, but Bones…is also my favorite (Oh cmon, you can have two favorites, right??). I wonder why it doesn’t have that many takers, though.

I am a huuuugee fan of Emily Deschanel. I think she’s really talented and I love the way she’s portrayed Dr. Temperance Brennan, the main character. She was particularly good in the 9th episode of Season 6 “The Doctor in the Photo”, where Brennan finds a victim whose life parallels her own. She’s so pretty, that too without being a size zero. Needless to say, I’ve been religiously watching every episode on Star World :-). But its soo late coming here, I heard that season 7 is going to premiere in the U.S. sometime in November. Wonder when that’ll hit Indian TV screens (sulk). Better get the DVD or something.

Everything in the show seems so detailed and accurate; you actually feel you’re in the lab with all the squints. Don’t know what that means? You gotta watch Bones!! (Incidentally, that is one of Bones’ most common statements – “I don’t know what that means”!!)

Another thing I love about Bones is her style. She wears simple yet stylish formal clothing – button down shirts in various colors, no nonsense but well fitting trousers (rarely skirts) and so many beautiful coats and jackets (most of them Burberry).

However, the highlight of her outfits is the jewelry, especially the neckpieces. She’s supposed to have collected them on her travels to exotic places. Though a polar opposite of her clothes, her jewelry does blend in and creates a really interesting look.

Well, I could go on and on and on, but by then I guess you’d all have stopped reading ;-). Anyway, you can always look here for more info. Find out what's happening in the current episodes (in India) here.

Do any of you guys love Bones too??? Do tell me, I’d love to know!!!
