Half Century!! Yay!!
My fiftieth post!!! Yahooooo!!!!! I have actually written 50 blog posts!!! Wow, wasn’t sure this day would come so soon :-). Feels real good!!!
Whew, that’s a lot of exclamation marks ;-), well, just goes to describe how I’m feeling right now. I’m really loving blogging, even for all the unpredictability that goes with it; some days, my fingers are flying across the keyboard, and on some others I wonder what I was thinking when I started the blog :-).
I was real lonely, in terms of having no friends at all around when I started out, but now I feel like I have connections with so many women around the globe!!! It really, really feels soo much better. I can talk about anything I want to, and I know there will definitely be someone out there who will share my feelings. This may sound kinda crazy, but I find it quite comforting. This milestone is dedicated to all my blog buddies, everyone who reads and comments on my posts as well as others whose blogs have made a difference in my life. Here’s to you, guys!!!
Well, today is also my dear brother’s birthday, so here’s wishing you a great day, Bro and many, many more wonderful birthdays ahead!!! This is a pic that was taken on his 2nd birthday, and that’s me helping him cut the cake. It’s not very clear here, but I'm pretty sure he was ready to jump into it!!
Red n Gold!
Hope everyone had a wonderful Diwali yesterday!! It was literally a ‘blast’ here, with crackers bursting left, right and centre. We didn’t celebrate much, just went out for a bit, and then had a nice, simple meal at home. I stayed away from sweets (Yay!!!), though right now the house is full of them – chocolate laddoos, soan papdi, rasgullas, fruit custard, cupcakes. Most of these are courtesy my Mom, in-laws and others. I’m gradually giving most of them away; just looking at the lot is making me crave insulin!!
I wore a comparatively simple outfit yesterday, with some golden accessories to give it a slightly more festive look. I like the red n green combination; though Christmasy, it gets desi-fied when you add gold :-).
Gold blingy stuff on the neckline and sleeve:
The earrings I wore,
A better view (and yes, that is a chopstick :-)):
I went with thin jangly bangles on one hand (the gold version of the same seen here) and a couple of bulky ones on the other:
My trusty Kohlapuris are getting a lot of action, this is definitely one of my most economic purchases!
Red Kurta – Thrifted
Green Patiala (Bottom) – Westside
Green Dupatta – Westside
Kohlapuris (footwear) – Exhibition
Thin bangles – Umm… dunno
Thick bangles – T.Nagar, Chennai
Earrings – A little store in Kochi
I guess my hair got caught in the festive spirit yesterday and was dying to explode, just like those crackers. How else can I explain the way it was behaving? Ughhhh!!!! Got to schedule some deep treatment stuff this weekend.
Wow, can you believe that this is my 49th post?? I’m about to hit a half century!!! Great, now I feel like I got to post about something profound and thought provoking ;-). Anyway, that’s another day, we’ll see then!!!

DIY Experiments!
Had a pretty blah weekend, the downside being that Cub was a little under the weather. He’s at home now, enjoying Tiny TV, which he would otherwise miss, being at playschool at that time. Tiny TV has suddenly rekindled a whole new love for Noddy ,with Noddy’s car being the number one item on his current wish list (yes, even he has a wish list :-)). He already has Noddy’s train set with two other characters, but for some reason, only Noddy is permitted to drive the engine :-)).
Tough Luck, guys!!Only I get to drive!! |

Anyway, I’ve been meaning to do some crafting for a while now, and when I came across some ideas from two enormously talented crafters, I decided to give it a try.
The first one I attempted was a statement necklace done by Amie of Kitty Cats and Airplanes.
I am a huge fan of Amie, she’s extremely talented, very sweet and oh-so-funny!! Her blog just brims with positive energy and it is hard for anyone to remain sullen after reading her posts. To know the story behind her blog name, you’ll have to go ahead and read it!!
So, I started out just like she explained in her tutorial, but since my stupid, stupid glue didn’t work at all, I ended up sewing all the supposed-to-be-stuck parts. And that was very tiring, not to mention that the end product wasn’t half as good as Amie’s :-(.
The second one was a recycled magazine pendant by Craftstylish. This is a lot easier and turns out better too, though I doubt if I would actually wear it. It, however, makes a great activity for kids in the age group 4 – 12, especially girls.
Beware, this is addictive. Look, I made another one!! (Sorry for the crappy pic, twas taken on my phone)
Well, I am loving the crafty new me!!! I have some more DIY stuff lined up, which I hope will turn out better than my previous attempts ;-).

Recipe for the Week - Pizza
I have tried a pizza before, but as I have mentioned here about my era of baking disasters, it was a failure. But since I have a new found interest in baking, and a few of my current attempts have been successful, I decided to give pizza a try.
This is a non veg pizza, though I think it would taste pretty good even without the sausages.
What you’ll need: (for 2 pizzas – 4 servings)
Pizza Base:
250 g plain flour
1 tsp salt
1 tsp yeast
1 tsp sugar
100 ml warm water
1 tsp olive oil
Topping (per pizza):
Ready Made Pizza/Pasta Sauce – 3 tbsp
Sliced Sausages – 70 g
Sliced Capsicum/Green Bell Pepper – 1/2
Sliced Mushrooms – 100 g
Sliced Olives – 30 g
Grated Mozzarella Cheese – 75 g
Grated Cheddar Cheese – 50 g
Oregano – 1 tbsp
Red Chilli Flakes – 1 tbsp
Salt & Pepper – to taste
What you’re going to do:
1. Dissolve the sugar and yeast in warm water and keep in a warm place for about 15 minutes. NOTE: the water should be just warm, not too hot. The mixture should foam up like below:
2. Mix the yeast mixture along with the flour and salt and knead it well.
3. Add olive oil and knead again. It has to be really pliable and elastic, so add more warm water if necessary. Knead for about 10 minutes. NOTE: If the dough isn’t smooth and elastic enough, it won’t rise.
3. Place the dough into a large bowl and cover with a damp muslin cloth. Leave to rise for about an hour.
4. Preheat the oven to 200˚ C.
5. When the dough has risen to double the volume (sorry, should’ve taken a pic here), knead it again knocking out the air from it, for about 7 minutes. If you have time, cover and leave again for another hour, else continue.
6. Divide the dough into two sections. Use a rolling pin to flatten each section into a disc of the size of your baking tin. It should be approximately ½” thick. Place it into the baking tin and leave to rise for 10 minutes.
7. Divide each of the toppings into two parts, one part for each pizza.
8. Prick the pizza base all over and spread about 3 tbsp sauce all over it. Arrange half the toppings except the cheese over this.
9. Sprinkle some pepper and salt (if needed. The sausages, mushrooms and cheese had enough salt in them, so I used just a pinch).
10. Spread the grated cheeses over the toppings and then sprinkle chilli flakes and oregano. Here’s how mine looked before popping it into the oven:
11. Place the tin in the oven and bake for about 12-15 minutes, till the cheese is completely melted and the crust is golden.
12. Remove from pan, slice and enjoy!!
Stretchy cheese and crunchy capsicum and soft sausage. Mmmm.!!!! |
This pizza turned out ok, in my opinion, but it certainly wasn’t perfect. For one, I wish I had kept the dough to rise for longer, to get a fluffier crust. I also wish I had used some cheese with more flavor and I would have liked some more color. Regarding the health factor, the refined flour base is the problem. You can use more cheese if you like it that way, but I was happy with this amount. That’s the thing about pizza, you can twist the toppings any which way you want!
I also plan to try the following:
1. Wholewheat base
2. Paneer and onion on the topping
3. Seafood topping
So, that was quite an enjoyable dinner :-). Do any of you have a never-fail pizza recipe? Do share!!
White Weekends!
A beautiful new week has dawned!! This month is really rushing by!! It feels like October just began day before yesterday, and now we’re already past the middle of the month! Whew!
Today, is my latest attempt at an outfit post. Actually, it’s two outfits. Last weekend my grandmother had a Sunday brunch at her place for the entire ‘khandaan’. Ok, Sunday brunch sounds too fancy for what actually happened. Most of us were running behind our preschoolers/toddlers, while those in the 12-18 age group were busy discussing Ra.One and the aunties were gossiping about, well, I don’t really know, I was running behind little wild animals, remember?
Anyway, I wore an all white cotton kurta with chikan work and a blue bandhini dupatta. And of course, a white bottom as well. This is one of my most comfortable outfits, especially on a bright sunny day.
I went for my multicolored thread bangle on one hand and some jangly metal ones on the other. Nope, no watch!
I loooove these bangles. I also have a similar set in gold. They are so versatile and you can wear as few or as many as you like. And even mix and match to create interesting stacks.
I wore a pair of little jhumka-hoops. These have got to be my most worn earrings:
White Chikan Work Kurta (Tunic) – A small store in Bombay
White Chudidar (Bottoms) – Max
Blue Bandhini Dupatta – Commercial Street , Bangalore
Earrings – Commercial Street , Bangalore
Multicolored Bangle – Tribal Zone
Metal Bangles – Don’t remember :-(
Nude flat sandals - Mochi
Yesterday, we went out shopping for my sister, and for some reason, I chose white again. Only this time I paired it with a printed mul dupatta, which I simply adore. Another perfect summer outfit. (I know, my fall fashion leaves a lot to be desired). I wore my multicolored Kohlapuris and beads for some color.
A close up of the dupatta print:
A close up of the work on the kurta and my chunky bead necklace (another really versatile piece):
My favorite watch,
And a pair of earrings I got free with a shampoo!!
Printed Mul Dupatta – Fabindia
Chunky Bead Necklace – People
Watch – Titan Raga
Kohlapuris – Local Exhibition
You can see a close up of the Kohlapuris here. Have I mentioned how absolutely comfortable these Kohlapuris are? I could walk around in them all day and not feel a thing. They really are like walking barefoot (in a good sense :-)).
I carried a black baggit bag, but couldn’t get a photo. So, isn’t this outfit post better than the last one I did? I think the pictures at least, are far better, right?
In other news, I baked a plain sponge cake last week. It was supposed to be split into two and sandwiched with jam in between, but I left it as a single cake and decorated the top with Nutella and Cadbury’s gems. Needless to say, Cub was over the moon!! He had it for breakfast, took it to school for his snack, had it for his tea time snack and then had a piece after dinner. I just couldn’t stop him! (And it was kind of flattering!!). After all that sugar, this week is going to be fruit week for him!!
Oh, and here’re the pics:
