Monthly Review – April

April has been a month of recovery for my knees, with some low impact exercising. I am really proud that I have finally learnt to control my portions. My weight loss goal at the beginning of the year was 5 kg, of which I have lost 2 kg to date. I know, slow progress but steady progress nevertheless. What I’ve learnt is that portion control is really, really important for me to lose weight, and exercising keeps that weight off. Also, I’ve started weighing myself everyday, and I feel a real sense of control now.

Prayers and regular blogging are my major areas of improvement for next month. Also more time and activities with Cub, I read very little to him last month and I feel really bad about it.

I’m so excited about May – it’s my birthday and anniversary month!!! Well, catch you guys later, hope you're having a nice summer!!

White, Blue and Floral!

We had a few light showers which made it a little cooler here. It is actually quite cloudy as I’m typing this :-). Anyways, I used the cool(er) weather as an excuse to slip on my relaxed fit jeans, which were otherwise ignored during summer :-). I wore this outfit when I went shopping with my sister.

I teamed the jeans with a white comfy top and a floral stole to add some color.

Carried on the floral theme with a silver flower pendant

More flowers on my bangles:

My bright-as-bright-can-be red bag:

And some non-floral accessories:

I wore these super comfy Catwalk flats for the second time. They are a dream to walk about in :-).

Top: AND
Jeans: Westside
Stole: Pantaloons
Bag: Gift
Pendant: A store in Saudi Arabia
Earrings: I think it was Reliance TimeOut
Watch: Titan Raga
Bangles: Streets of Hyderabad
Sandals: Catwalk

This post is a participant in the event INFB Remix: Florals. You can check out the details here.

Is it raining in your part of the world? Those in India, have you banished your jeans for now??

Weekly Goals Update – 22 April 2012

This week was quite good. In my opinion, anyway :-).

1. Worked out for 30 min on 4 days.
2. Controlled portions on all days except one.
3. Drank lots n lots of water.
4. Read a book – ‘Revolution 2020’ by Chetan Bhagat
5. Prayers were mostly regular.
6. Nagging free, except for one day.

1. Fruit intake was not up to the mark.
2. Didn't catch up on the news much.
3. Didn't spend much time with Cub.
4. ODed on all my meals on Sunday :-(.

We had a few light showers here, which added some much needed respite to the blazing heat. The weekend was spent mall-crawling with good food, toy shopping with Cub and some leisurely reading. Nothing like a relaxed weekend to kick start a great week!!!

Recipe for the Week - Palak Chicken

Summer is at its peak and everyone’s opting for salads, juices and the like. Non vegetarian food isn’t really what we crave nowadays, but in case you do, here is a healthy dish that is oh-so-easy to make!! So what are you waiting for, let’s get started!!

What you’ll need (3 servings):

1. 250 g chicken cut into small pieces
2. ½ a small bunch of spinach/palak
3. 1 tbsp ginger garlic paste
4. 1 tomato chopped
5. 1 green chilli
6. ½ onion sliced
7. ½ - 1 tbsp oil
8. salt to taste
9. 1 tsp coriander powder
10. ½ tsp pepper powder
11. ½ tsp garam masala

What you’re going to do:

1. Wash the spinach leaves well and cook it in a pressure cooker for 1 whistle.

2. Cool the spinach and puree with a green chilli.

3. Heat oil in a pressure cooker, and fry the onion on low heat till golden brown.
4. Add the ginger garlic paste and cook till the raw smell disappears.
5. Add the tomatoes, cover and cook till soft and mushy.
6. Add the salt, coriander, pepper and fry for a minute.
7. Add the chicken and fry for a couple of minutes.
8. Add the spinach puree and cook the chicken for 3 whistles or till done.
9. Serve with a little garam masala sprinkled on top of the dish.

I have avoided the calorie-laden ingredients that usually go with this dish – ghee and cream. I’m sure the ghee would add a wonderful flavor of it’s own, but since this is a summer special, I decided to go without it. Serve with some fresh, hot wholewheat rotis, cool low fat curd and you have a lovely, healthy meal ready!!

Weekly Goals Update – 15 April 2012

Another week gone by, with a lot of family fun and festivals. It was also my parents’ anniversary, so we spent a lot of time at home, with cousins coming over and stuff.

I’d like to thank all of you who enquired about my bad knee. It was really sweet of you guys and it felt so good to see your messages and comments. Thank you!! My knee is much better now, though not 100% back to normal. I did start light exercise this week, and hope to increase it in the next :-).

1. Worked out 3 days this week for 30 minutes.
2. Completely nagging-free week. (I was having too much fun at home)
3. Ate mindfully and controlled portions about 75% of the time
4. Drank litres and litres of water.
5. Ensured sufficient fruit intake

1. Ate ice cream, not once but twice.
2. Meals were a bit low on veggies.
3. Didn’t read any book.
4. Watched too much TV.

Isn’t the heat just getting unbearable?? The good thing is that it really kills the appetite, especially for heavy, non vegetarian stuff. Anyway, hope everyone’s having a great week!!

Lust List - April

Hot! Hot! Hot!! Can’t think of another word to describe the current weather!! Whew!!! Hope the pretty stuff below will succeed in cooling you a little :-).

1. Floral Print Blouse

This lovely blouse from Robert Cavalli is a treat in gorgeous spring colors. With a boat slit neckline, this is something that will look great on all shapes and sizes. It has a luxurious look, also considering it is 100% silk.

2. Special Edition Sunglasses

Yum, yum. These Gucci babies are part of a special edition collection to celebrate Gucci's 90th anniversary. Doesn’t that cherry color leather frame make you want to grab them off the computer screen?

3. Blingy Basket Bag

Basket bags just spell spring, don’t they? Now, what if they were also a little embelished and made to look really cute? You’ve got your wish, Ma’am. Presenting the Coco Country Bag from Chanel. Isn’t she pretty?

4. Embroidered Full Skirt

Take a look at this darling and tell me you don’t want to be the girl wearing it. You want it? No worries, this net mesh skirt is available at ASOS. Now go ahead and order, I’ll wait.

5. Striped Hat

I honestly don’t know why no one wears hats in India. I can’t think of better protection from the harsh sun. I guess crowded bus/trains are probably the ones playing spoilsport. Anyway, that doesn’t stop us from lusting after this Bunny Toyo Bolo Sun Hat.

6. Pizza Jewelry

Pizza lovers – these are for you. Well, even if you’re not a pizza lover, I’m sure you’ll still admire these cute little creations from an Etsy shop named ‘The Menu’. They have quite a few unique pieces, of which I’ve featured the ‘Pepperoni Pizza Ring’ and the ‘Whole Deluxe Pizza Necklace’ here.

Warning: You may be into food jewelry, but you should know where to draw the line. Example shown below:

Hope everyone liked the list!! Ok, I’m off to get some cold lemonade, you guys chill too!!!
